What Are Bed Bugs?
Bed bugs are tiny. They can range in size from a length of 2mm, which is barely visible to the human eye, to a length of 4.5mm. Typically, they hide in mattresses and the crevices in wood and flooring.
They are also considered parasitic insects, meaning they feed on human and animal blood. They are attracted by the warmth in the bedding area, and the carbon dioxide from warm breathe. Normally these bugs attack while you’re asleep in bed, and the bite can be completely painless. Most people don’t notice them until they shop up days later as an area of red welts.
How Can I tell if I have Bed Bugs
-
Rusty or Reddish Stains: Bed bugs can leave behind rusty or reddish stains on bed sheets, mattresses, or other bedding materials. These stains are often caused by bed bugs being crushed or when they digest blood meals, which can then leak onto the fabric.
-
Dark Spots: Dark spots on bedding or mattresses are another common sign of bed bug activity. These spots are often small and look like tiny black or brown dots. They are actually bed bug feces and are typically found near their hiding spots.
-
Eggs and Eggshells: Bed bug eggs are tiny, about 1mm in size, and are pale or translucent in color. They are usually laid in clusters and can be found in cracks and crevices where bed bugs hide. Bed bug nymphs, as they grow larger, shed their skin several times, leaving behind pale yellowish skins that are also a sign of an infestation.
-
Live Bed Bugs: Of course, the most direct evidence of a bed bug infestation is the presence of live bed bugs. Adult bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed and have a reddish-brown color. They are usually active at night and feed on human blood.
How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs
To get rid of bed bugs, you first must understand exactly where they’re nesting. Normally, you can notice their presence by lifting the borders of your mattress (the lip around the perimeter). You will notice black streaks that have quite an unpleasant smell. This is a telltale sign of the presence of bed bugs.
After isolating the areas where you believe they’re located, first, treat the heavily soiled areas with Bed Bug Killer. This product is available online at Lenehans and is extremely effective. It suffocates the bed bugs and kills the eggs to prevent future infestation.
Once you’ve treated with the Bed Bug Killer, you need to get rid of all sheets, blankets, and pillows that came into contact with the bed bugs. Additionally, you should also treat the carpet area within close range of your bed. It’s possible they could have begun to make their way off the bed to travel.
It’s very important you thoroughly clean the entire area to make sure it’s free of bed bugs. It’s not a bad idea to use a number of different treatment options to ensure you effectively get rid of the bed bug infestation. You can find other sprays, bombs, and traps online from Lenehans.
